Premium Bathrooms builds walk-in showers and tub-to-shower conversions across Minneapolis and the Twin Cities. An essential refresh with a tub-to-shower conversion, new vanity and fixtures starts around $12,000. A larger custom tile walk-in shower as part of a full remodel usually runs $20,000 to $45,000. Most projects take 1 to 3 weeks on site, and every shower carries a 10-year craftsmanship warranty.
Your walk-in shower options
Custom tile walk-in shower
Built from scratch on new waterproofing, in any size and layout. You choose the tile, the pattern, built-in niches and a bench. This is the most flexible option, and it's what most of our master bathroom remodels include.
FlexStone shower panels
Solid panels instead of tile, with far fewer grout lines to clean. FlexStone is a good fit for guest baths, rentals and anyone who wants a lower-maintenance shower, and it usually costs less than custom tile.
Curbless (zero-threshold) shower
No step-over at all, so the bathroom floor runs straight into the shower. It's the cleanest look and the easiest to use as you age, but it requires reworking the floor so water drains properly. We'll tell you at the estimate whether your floor allows it.
Steam shower
A fully enclosed custom shower with a steam generator, vapor-proofed walls and ceiling, and sealed glass. It's a luxury-level project.

What a walk-in shower costs
- Essential refresh, from ~$12,000. A tub-to-shower conversion plus a new vanity and upgraded fixtures, keeping the existing layout.
- Full remodel, $20,000 to $45,000. A larger custom tile walk-in shower as part of a complete bathroom gut and rebuild.
- Luxury, $50,000+. Curbless or steam showers, layout changes and high-end finishes.
The biggest cost drivers are moving the drain or valve, tile choice and pattern, and custom glass. See the full 2026 cost guide →
How a tub-to-shower conversion works
- Estimate and design. We measure in person, talk through size, tile, niches and glass, and send an itemized estimate.
- Materials staged. Tile, valve, drain and fixtures arrive at our warehouse and are inspected before demo day.
- Tear-out. The old tub and surround come out down to the studs, so any hidden water damage gets found and fixed, not covered up.
- Waterproofing and tile. A new shower pan and full waterproofing system go in before any tile is set. This is the step that makes a shower last for decades.
- Glass. Custom glass is measured once the tile is set and typically installs 2 to 4 weeks later.
Most projects take 1 to 3 weeks on site, plus the glass install. Every shower we build is covered by our 10-year craftsmanship warranty.
Should you remove your only bathtub?
If the bathroom you're converting has the only tub in the house, think about resale. Families with young children often look for at least one tub. If you have another tub elsewhere in the home, converting the extra one is rarely a concern, and a walk-in shower is usually the more useful choice day to day.
Planning for accessibility
A walk-in or curbless shower is one of the best changes for aging in place. Ask us about a built-in bench, a handheld shower on a slide bar, and adding blocking inside the walls during the remodel so grab bars can be mounted securely now or later.
