In 2026, most full bathroom remodels in Minneapolis and the Twin Cities cost $20,000 to $45,000. An essential refresh, such as a tub-to-shower conversion with a new vanity, starts around $12,000. Luxury remodels with layout changes, double vanities or curbless showers run $50,000 and up. Most projects take 1 to 3 weeks on site.
Bathroom remodel prices in the Twin Cities, by project level
Almost every bathroom we remodel lands in one of three levels. The level is set by how much of the room changes, not by how big the room is.
| Project level | Typical 2026 price | What it usually includes |
|---|---|---|
| Essential refresh | From ~$12,000 | Tub-to-shower conversion, new vanity and upgraded fixtures, keeping the existing layout. |
| Full remodel | $20,000 – $45,000 | Complete gut to the studs, new waterproofing, custom tile shower, new flooring and finishes throughout. |
| Luxury / custom | $50,000+ | Layout changes, double vanities, curbless or steam showers, high-end tile and spa-level finishes. |

Which level fits your bathroom?
Hall or guest bathroom
Usually an essential refresh or a lower-end full remodel. The most common request is replacing a dated tub and surround with a walk-in shower, plus a new vanity and fixtures.
Master bathroom
Usually a full remodel, or luxury when the layout changes. Typical upgrades are a larger custom tile shower in place of a corner garden tub, a double vanity and better lighting.
Basement bathroom
The price depends on what plumbing is already there. Finishing an existing rough-in costs far less than breaking concrete to add drains. We'll tell you which situation you have at the estimate.
Bathroom addition
Priced individually, because framing, foundation and plumbing rough-in add scope beyond a remodel.
What actually drives the price
- Moving plumbing. Keeping the toilet, drain and shower valve where they are is the single biggest way to control cost. Relocating them adds plumbing work and usually a permit.
- The shower. A custom tile shower with niches and a bench costs more than FlexStone panels, which cost more than a standard tub surround. Curbless and steam showers sit at the top.
- Tile size and pattern. Herringbone, small mosaics and large-format porcelain all take more labor per square foot than a simple straight lay.
- Shower glass. Custom frameless glass is measured after the tile is set and typically installs 2 to 4 weeks later. It's a meaningful line item on its own.
- Vanity, fixtures and finishes. These are your choices, and they're the easiest place to adjust the budget up or down. Our estimates show them as clear allowances.
- What's behind the walls. Water damage, rot or failing old plumbing only shows up at tear-out. It's why a 10–15% contingency is smart on any remodel.
- Electrical and ventilation. New lighting, outlets and a properly sized exhaust fan add cost, and often a permit.
Why bathroom remodel quotes vary so much
Two quotes for "the same bathroom" are rarely the same scope. Before you compare prices, make sure every contractor is pricing the same written scope of work, with the same allowances for tile, vanity and fixtures. A low bid with tiny allowances often ends up costing more.
You'll also see national "bath in a day" companies advertising much lower prices. Those are usually acrylic liners installed over your existing tub or shower. That's a different product from a tear-out remodel with new waterproofing and tile, so the prices aren't comparable. See the side-by-side comparison →
How paying for a remodel works
Never pay 100% up front. A deposit at signing is standard; ours is 50%, and it funds the materials we order, inspect and stage at our warehouse before demo day. The remaining payments are tied to project milestones, not dates. If you'd rather spread the cost out, financing is available as low as $106/month, subject to credit approval.
